BALERION THE BLACK DREAD

Balerion was a huge, headstrong and inconsiderate dwarf.

Balerion had black wings and scales. The fire that came out of his mouth was also black with red swirls. His flames could melt steel and even black stone and turn sand into glass.

After the invasion of Aegon the Conqueror, Balerion was the largest of all Targaryen dragons.
His wings were so big that when he flew above, his shadow covered the entire city. His teeth were as long as swords, and his jaws were big enough to swallow a giant mammoth.

Valerian, so named after an ancient god of the Valerian fire hold. He was born in Valyria and was one of the five dragons Einar Targaryen brought with him when he fled to Dragon stone to escape the destruction of Valyria.

Lord Aegon Targaryen made Balerion his dragon before marrying his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys. He took part in several wars in the East with the Balerians and after winning them focused on taking over the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. After the Iron Victory at the Wailing Willows, Balerion burned his enemies at Gods Eye.
Next, Aegon took Balerion to Harrenhal where Lord Harron Hore was overestimating the protection of his castle. Aegon told him to surrender before sunset, but Haron didn't take it for granted.
After sunset, Aegon flew into the sky with Balerion and landed on the walls of the castle and lit his fire.
Balerion's dragon fire was so hot that the stone towers of Harrenhal rose like candles, melting and twisting.

The people of Crackclaw point, who learned of this burning of Harrenhal, then completely surrendered to Visenya Targaryen.

Aegon and Balerion's next stop was the field of fire. Along with his sisters and their dragons vhagar and meraxes. About four thousand people were burnt in front of these three dragons. The end of the battle was marked by a Targaryen victory.
Upon learning of this event in Filed of Fire, Torren Stark of Winterfell surrendered to Aegon along with his men.
After the chief septon of Old town crowned Aegon and anointed him king of the Seven Kingdoms, Aegon displayed his power by flying high above Oldtown on Balerion.
Later, after Aegon announced that he would rule from Kings landing, not Old town, a large fortress named Red Keep was built there.

In this fortress, Aegon collected a thousand swords of his enemies who had died in battle and cast them in the black flames of the Balerians to create the Iron Throne.

After the conquest, Aegon flew to the first Donish war with Balerion. On that occasion, when he arrived, the sunspear had been left behind. Aegon, enraged by the murder of his brother's wife and her dragon merrxes, burned down the Wyl clan's storehouses, and Aegon later attacked Sandstone, Wythe, and Helholt with Visenia's help.
During the two years at dragons worth that followed Rhaenys Targaryen's death, every Dornish stronghold was burned several times by Aegon and Visenya.

King Aegon won a great victory over the Seven Kingdoms, and because of the Balearians, the rebellions that would otherwise have broken out against him were suppressed.

After the death of Aegon the Conqueror, Balerion was claimed by his youngest son, Prince Maegor. He longed for his father's dragon and claimed no other dragon, as he considered no other dragon worthy of him except Balerion. After Aeneas banished King Maegor from the kingdom for his illicit marriage, Maegor flew to Pentos with Balerion. After the death of King Aenys, Maegor returned to Westeros with Balerion and took the Iron Throne by force.

As the Faith militant rose against Maegor, he destroyed the Sept of Remembrance, Balerian fire at the Battle of Blackwater Rush.

Prince Aegon, the son of King Aeneas, challenged his uncle Maegor to a duel with him, and Maegor used Balerion to easily kill his nephew Prince Aegon and his dragon Quicksilver. After the death of Kurira Maegor, Balerion lived in Dragonstone.

In 54 AC, Princess Aerea Targaryen claimed Balerion. She was also the only woman to ride the Balerian. Suddenly Balerion and Aerea disappeared and were not heard from for more than a year.

In 56 AC, Balerion returned to Kingslanding and Princess Aerea came with him. But the princess was very ill and she soon died. Aerea finally admits that Valerian has taken her to his birthplace, Valeria, because she can't handle the dragon despite claiming Valerian.
After some time, Balerian was kept in the dragon pit and Balerian was the first dragon to be kept there.

After Aerea Targaryen, several Targaryens tried and failed to become Balerian's runner.

But, in 93 AC, the Balerians finally bowed to Prince Viserys Targaryen, who entered the Dragon Pit with the intention of claiming a dragon. It was a very difficult task and somehow Viserys carried Balerion into the sky. They flew around Kings landing three times, but then Viserys announced to his father that he intended to fly Balerian to Dragonstone. However, Viserys abandoned the idea after realizing that the dragon did not have the strength to do so.

Viserys Targaryen the first was the last runner and master of Balerion and he claimed Balerion for less than a year. By this time, Balerion was suffering from his age and illness. Balerian grew slow and heavy in his final years, and could barely even stand up.

Balerian, the giant rooster owned by the Targaryen clan in Westeros history at that time, breathed his last at Kingslanding in 93 AC.

After Balerion's death, his skull was hung in the throne room along with eighteen other Targaryen dragon skulls. After Robert Baratheon's rebellion, King Robert removed the skulls from the throne room and stored them in a dark vault in the Red Keep...
